Friday November 5th 2010 Don Bosco was celebrating annual graduation ceremony that took place at the college premises. 54 students graduated with certificates and Diplomas. These students were from Accountancy, Auto Mobile Mechanics, Construction, IT-Technician and Professional Computing, Tailoring and Designing, Electrical Installations, Catering and hotel Management.
A mass of people gathered on 5th November at Don Bosco Youth Technical Institute witnessing the issuing of the awards to 54, graduating. The ceremony was officially opened by the guest Of Honor Prof. A.G Phiri (Vice Chancellor of The Catholic University of Malawi) who granted the authority to raise the Malawian and Don Bosco flags.
There after the guest plus other visitors Mr. Luwambala (TEVETA CHAIR PERSON), Mr. Da-Costa (TELASTONE MANAGING DIRECTOR) just to mention a few went through a tour on the college campus to see the exhibitions prepared by the graduating students from different departments; Accountancy, Auto Mobil Mechanics, Construction, Electrical Installations, Information Technology, Hotel Management, Fashion Art &Beauty. He then went straight into the principal’s office to sign, in the visitor’s book from where he went to join the line of the Tutors and graduating students at the multipurpose hall where Mafirika were entertaining the crowd.
At the ceremony the President of Students council Silvester Mwandila nicknamed (Obama) delivered his speech emphasizing on students welfare and coming together of the institute with the Catholic University so as to improve on the academics of the students.
On His speech Prof. AG Phiri said Education is very good for the nation mainly looking at how technology is advancing. He said a man finishes education when he has died. He even comes to conclude that Don Bosco is part of them. He also said that Catholic institutions should differ from the other colleges on moral values; this was to do with hard working in both the industry and the society.
As Mafirika brought their hit Don Bosco Abambo Achinyamata, Prof. A.G. Phiri could not help listening and watching but rather join to the grandaunts dancing showing his 19s…steps.
Few students were awarded prizes on different categories, Sports, discipline, Hardworking, Punctuality, Communicator and Best in Academics.
The function opened and closed with a prayer by Rev. Fr. Michael Mbandama. And the closing remarks by the master of ceremony Mr. Precious Chilupysa alongside Mrs. M Kisyombe.
