DON BOSCO COLLEGE PARTNERS WITH STEP TO OFFER BURSARY PROGRAM IN NON-FORMAL TRAINING FOR VULNERABLE STUDENTS IN MALAWI

Don Bosco Youth Technical Institute, a catholic owned technical college will in the next 12 months beginning march 2019 to march 2020 run a bursary programme in non-formal training for vulnerable students in a partnership with STEP Malawi. The programme is supported through the Skills and Technical Education Programme (STEP), an initiative partially implemented by UNESCO with funding from the EU. The bursary programme was officially unveiled on 11th March 2019 during a meeting which was held at the STEP offices, Capital Hill in Lilongwe.

The programme will support 50 vulnerable students within the age range of 16 – 27 particularly those who for other reasons and difficulties could not successfully complete their Malawi School Certificate of Education or have not attained sufficient high enough grades to enter and pursue the tertiary education as demanded by the Malawi Education Policies. The programme will also seek to prioritise among others; single mothers, men and women with disabilities, men and women living with albinism and men and women living with HIV/AIDS.

Don Bosco Youth Technical Institute with its pool of experienced and skilled expertise will facilitate the delivery of the necessary skills and knowledge in the following trades; Carpentry and Joinery, Solar basic application training, Tailoring and Fashion Design, Brick Laying, Welding and Fabrication, Basic Business Management, Entrepreneurship and Screen Printing.

The project will run in Lilongwe district only and the targeted population will precisely come from Traditional Authorities Tsabango, Kalolo, Kalumbu, Chadza, Malili and Chimutu.
